How can I test the health of my Maxtor OneTouch II, Onetouch III or OneTouch 4 drive?
This chart contains instructions for launching diagnostics for OneTouch 4, OneTouch III, and OneTouch II drives in Windows and MacOS (where available). Step-by-step instructions are available for each, as well as a tutorial video at the bottom of each box.
SeaTools for Windows will also perform reliable tests on these units, and can be used in conjunction with or instead of these tests. See "How to Use Seatools for Windows" for a tutorial.
In the event that the drive fails the test, see our Warranty Services Page for Warranty Replacement options.

Tutorial for Mac:
- Double-click on the Maxtor OneTouch Manager icon on your Macintosh Dock. This will launch the OneTouch Manager application.
If this icon was not added or has been removed from the Dock, click Finder > Applications > Maxtor OneTouch Manager
- From the OneTouch Manager's main screen, select the OneTouch III drive you wish to diagnose.
- Click on the Run Diagnostics button.
- A status bar displays (at the bottom of the OneTouch Manager window) showing the progress of the test. Upon completion, a message appears showing, "This drive passed its most recent diagnostic test."
If you have a OneTouch III Turbo Drive, the Diagnostic will scan both disks in the enclosure; thus a status bar will show Drive 1 of 2 is being tested, followed by Drive 2 of 2 is being tested. All other OneTouch III (FireWire 400/USB 2.0 & FireWire 800/FireWire 400/USB 2.0) drives only contain one (1) disk; therefore the scan will show that one disk is being scanned.
