Is there any pre-loaded/bundled software with the Seagate External Drives?
Yes and No. Yes there is bundled software on the drive however; the only purpose it serves is to help register the drive with Seagate. Upon connecting the drive, the Welcome to Seagate Product Registration page opens. Enter the requested information to register your product.
How can I register my drive if the software does not Autorun?
In the event that the Product Registration Screen does not launch, do one of the following:
Option 1:
- Connect the Seagate External Drive to your Windows computer
- Click Start – Computer (My Computer for Windows XP). Browse to and locate the drive letter associated with your Seagate External Drive and once open, launch Setup.exe. Use the screen provided to register your drive.

Option 2:
- Open your browser and access www.seagate.com
- Click on the Product Registration link. Use the screen/website provided to register your drive.
How can I put my files on the drive?
The processes of saving, cut & paste, and copy & paste
can be accomplished with standard operating system & application methods. Refer to you operating system or application documentation for the aforementioned procedures.
Can I use this drive as a backup device?
Most definitely. The Seagate External Drives should have no issue being seen as a target device for operating system and third-party backup software solutions. Refer to your OS or backup software documentation for proper configuration procedures.
Why can't I save data to my drive when it is connected to my Mac?
Most likely the reason for this is due to the fact that drive still possesses its native partition scheme and file system. Remember that the Seagate External Desktop and/or Seagate External Portable drive(s) come pre-formatted with an NTFS partition. Mac OS X can read data from an NTFS partition, but not write (save to/copy to, etc.) an NTFS partition. To resolve this issue, you must prepare the drive using Disk Utility. Refer to Apple documentation for using Disk Utility to partition/format hard drives.
Will this drive work with Time Machine?
Yes your Seagate External drive will serve well as a Time Machine target. Refer to Apple documentation for using Time Machine.
How can I check the health status of this drive?
The following Software Diagnostics can be used to test the health of your Seagate External Desktop and/or External Portable Drive(s):

Will the drive work with Linux?
Seagate External Desktop and/or Seagate Extended Portable drives should function like any other USB drive connected to a Linux based computer. However, this practice is not supported by Seagate.
